Brian Freeze receives huge salary as Auburn's Head Football Coach

Freeze's guaranteed contract makes him the highest-paid Group of Five coach

Former Liberty coach Hugh Freeze was announced as Auburn's new head football coach on Monday, and his contract details have been released. Freeze will make a base salary of $6.5 million per year for six years, according to the contract obtained by the Opelika-Auburn News. The deal is fully guaranteed through the 2030 season.

Freeze's average annual salary of $6.5 million will make him the highest-paid coach in the Group of Five conferences. He will be paid in monthly installments of $541,666.67.

Freeze's contract includes several bonuses

In addition to his base salary, Freeze will also receive several bonuses under the terms of his contract.

  • Signing bonus: $1 million, payable in two installments of $500,000
  • Performance bonus: Up to $1 million per year for winning a conference championship or reaching a New Year's Six bowl game
  • Academic bonus: Up to $100,000 per year for achieving certain academic goals

Freeze's contract also includes a provision that allows him to earn up to $2 million per year in additional compensation for media appearances, endorsements, and other activities.
